Welcome From the Headteacher

We are a welcoming, inclusive family school with a strong Christian ethos, a sense of community and a commitment to excellence for all children in our care.  We aim to ensure that each one of our children feels safe, and is enthusiastic, secure and confident.  We do this by nurturing each child’s uniqueness and responding to individual needs.  We want each child to be successful in their learning and to make a meaningful contribution to the world.

We continually aim to be an excellent school where people care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more that others think is practical and expect more than others think is possible.

We were inspected as a Church School in March 2015 and were graded as Outstanding in all areas of that report.  We think very carefully about the learning we offer to each child.

In June 2017 we were designated a Teaching School.  In this role we train teachers, provide high quality professional development and support to other schools.  We are proud of the quality of teaching and learning we offer at St Peter's and very pleased to be able to share this with others.  In October 2019 we were designated one of 32 English Hubs across England.  This designation was in recognition of our expertise in the teaching of Phonics and Early Reading and our ability to support other schools.  We will be supporting up to 85 schools during this academic year.  In January 2019 we hosted two teachers from Shanghai and welcomed over 400 teachers to the school to observe lessons and learn about our own approach to the teaching of mathematics.

We are the largest primary school in Portishead and as such gain offer resources, and expertise in Primary Education.  In September 2014 St Peter's became a 630 place primary school.   As part of the expansion we have benefited from  a 4.3 million development and have many state of the art facilities -  making St Peter's a great place to learn.

We are a Church of England Primary school and have very close links with Portishead Church of England and in particular with St Peter’s Parish Church.  We aim to value and introduce faith but we welcome all regardless of their faith or belief.
